Marcia"s Poem of the Week 5.26.2023

Marcia's Poem of the Week 5/26/2023 “THE LORD'S WORD”  The power of the Lord's word convicts of sin, teaches truth and leads to righteousness.   I Peter 2: 1-10 NLT 1. So get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech. 2. Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, 3. now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness. 4. You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor. 5. And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God. 6. As the Scriptures say,“I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem, chosen for great honor, and anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” 7. Yes, yo...

Marcia's Poem of the Week “Temporary Residents.”  I Peter 1:13-25 13 So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. 14 So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. 15 But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. 16 For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.” 17 And remember that the heavenly Father to whom you pray has no favorites. He will judge or reward you according to what you do. So you must live in reverent fear of him during your time here as “temporary residents.” 18 For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. 19 It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinles...

Marcia's poem of the week 5-12-2023    Key verse: Matthew 5:4, NLT 4 God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.  I Samuel 1: 3-20 NLT 3 Year after year this man went up from his town to worship and sacrifice to the Lord Almighty at Shiloh, where Hophni and Phinehas, the two sons of Eli, were priests of the Lord. 4 Whenever the day came for Elkanah to sacrifice, he would give portions of the meat to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters. 5 But to Hannah he gave a double portion because he loved her, and the Lord had closed her womb. 6 Because the Lord had closed Hannah’s womb, her rival kept provoking her in order to irritate her. 7 This went on year after year. Whenever Hannah went up to the house of the Lord, her rival provoked her till she wept and would not eat. 8 Her husband Elkanah would say to her, “Hannah, why are you weeping? Why don’t you eat? Why are you downhearted? Don’t I mean more to you than ten sons?” 9 Once when the...

Marcia's Poem of the Week 5/5/2023 “ANGER”  James 1:16-22 NLT 16  So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. 18  He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.19  Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. 20 Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. 21 So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls. 22  But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.  “ANGER” James 1:16-22 NLT When anger consumes your life, Your soul becomes dark and hollow, Where hur...

Marcia's Poem of the Week  4.28.2023 “TEMPTATION” James 1:12-25 NLT / 12 God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. 13 And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. 14 Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. 15 These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death. 16 So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. 18 He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession. 19 Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to s...

Marcia's Poem of the week 4.14.2023 “The Resurrection ”  John 20: 1-6 NLT  Early on Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. 2 She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. She said, “They have taken the Lord’s body out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!” 3 Peter and the other disciple started out for the tomb. 4 They were both running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He stooped and looked in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he didn’t go in. 6 Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, 7 while the cloth that had covered Jesus’ head was folded up and lying apart from the other wrappings. 8 Then the disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed— 9 for until then they still hadn’t understood the Scri...

Marcia's Poem of the Week 12.17.2023 “TRIUMPHAL ENTRY”  Matthew 21:6-9 / 6  The t wo disciples did as Jesus commanded.  7  They brought the donkey and the colt to him and threw their garments over the colt, and he sat on it. 8  Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road ahead of him, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.  9  Jesus was in the center of the procession, and the people all around him were shouting, “Praise God for the Son of David!   Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord!  Praise God in the highest heaven!” “TRIUMPHAL ENTRY” Matthew 21:6-9 The Lord's Triumphal Entry emerges, As a distinguished red-carpet scene, Where waving live palm branches, Celebrate Jesus as Lord and King. Waved palms were laid in His path, Where garments were also thrown down, And the people shouted His praises at last, As Jesus rode the colt through the town. This w...
