Marcia's Poem of the Week  “Gifts”  12/9/2022

Matthew 2: 7-12 NLT 7 Then Herod called for a private meeting with the wise men, and he learned from them the time when the star first appeared. 8 Then he told them, “Go to Bethlehem and search carefully for the child. And when you find him, come back and tell me so that I can go and worship him, too!” 9 After this interview the wise men went their way. And the star they had seen in the east guided them to Bethlehem. It went ahead of them and stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! 11 They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. 12 When it was time to leave, they returned to their own country by another route, for God had warned them in a dream not to return to Herod.”

“Gifts”

Christ came to give sight to the blind,
To bring stillness and peace to the angry,
To refine by fire the wretched mind,
To create a new craving in the hungry.

He came to dress white evil and hate,
To soften the heart for a Savior dear,
The gift is to know our Heavenly fate,
To be holy and gifted with good cheer.

He came to love us and give us rest,
He came to make us pure and holy,
And he'll endow us with his best,
By filling us with his glory.

His heavenly father named him,
The prophets of old professed him,
Some accepted and claimed him,
And others rejected and blamed him.

But he came to the world to sanctify,
And he came to be a blessing,
And he came to the world to rectify,
And he came to the world to be loving.

Poem of the week for my great grandsons: Jeremiah, Tobiah and Elijah. Key verse: Matthew 2:11 They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

“Gifts”

You are part of the greater workings,
While you live in this time and place,
God gave you spiritual gifts to use,
To supply you with purpose and grace.

Your task is to serve your Lord,
To take his Spirit wherever you go,
To be an ambassador of his love,
So that he is who others will know.

His gifts are powerful and potent,
They change the lives of those they touch,
He distributes them as he determines,
Because he loves you so much.
