Marcia's Poem of the Week 9-30-2023 “OBEDIENCE” 

Jonah 4:1-11 NLT: 1. This change of plans greatly upset Jonah, and he became very angry. 2. So he complained to the Lord about it: “Didn’t I say before I left home that you would do this, Lord? That is why I ran away to Tarshish! I knew that you are a merciful and compassionate God, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. You are eager to turn back from destroying people. 3. Just kill me now, Lord! I’d rather be dead than alive if what I predicted will not happen.” 4. The Lord replied, “Is it right for you to be angry about this?” 5. Then Jonah went out to the east side of the city and made a shelter to sit under as he waited to see what would happen to the city. 6. And the Lord God arranged for a leafy plant to grow there, and soon it spread its broad leaves over Jonah’s head, shading him from the sun. This eased his discomfort, and Jonah was very grateful for the plant. 7. But God also arranged for a worm! The next morning at dawn the worm ate through the stem of the plant so that it withered away. 8. And as the sun grew hot, God arranged for a scorching east wind to blow on Jonah. The sun beat down on his head until he grew faint and wished to die. “Death is certainly better than living like this!” he exclaimed. 9. Then God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry because the plant died?” “Yes,” Jonah retorted, “even angry enough to die!” 10. Then the Lord said, “You feel sorry about the plant, though you did nothing to put it there. It came quickly and died quickly. 11. But Nineveh has more than 120,000 people living in spiritual darkness, not to mention all the animals. Shouldn’t I feel sorry for such a great city?”

James 1:19 says : be quick to listen, be slow to speak and slow to anger.

“OBEDIENCE”

Obedience is being ready to hear,
And not letting God's word fall on deaf ear,
And opening your eyes to fully see,
How an obedient life can come to be.

For God inspires the good in you,
That teaches how to love people too,
So allow the Lord much needed space,
To keep you in His love and grace.

Learn to be receptive to His will and ways,
And serve Him faithfully all of your days,
For God awakens you from your sleep,
To set you apart and make you complete.

Listen for Him to call your name,
And let go of your anger, fear, and shame,
God knows your weakness and He does care,
And when you feel alone He's always there.

Ask the Lord to open your heart,
And allow His love to set you apart,
He'll put together all you'll need,
To obey Him in every good deed.

OBEDIENCE

You know Jesus was rejected,
But that mattered not to Him,
He needed no approval,
He came for souls to win.

He told all who He was,
And the reason that He came,
Some were amazed at His words,
Others were angry at His claim.

Some tried to destroy Him,
But He slipped through the multitude,
And He made His way around them,
For He had work to do.

Are you amazed at His words,
Or are you angry at His claim?
Do you hope to undo Him,
Or want to see Him live again?

  Poem of the Week by Marcia 9/24/2021   “ONE WHO SERVES” Reflection on 1 Samuel 16:7 “But the Lord said to Samuel, do not consider his appearance or his height for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at things people look at; people look at the outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart.” And on , Luke 22:27 “For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as the one who serves.”   “ ONE WHO SERVES”   Each En-Gedi God creates, Where a servant is assigned, Is to exemplify integrity, And bring unity to mankind.   To pray for those that serve, Is a joy and privilege, For the nature of a call, Is to love and encourage.   For together we are stronger, And together we are one, For God loves His people, And leads us through His Son.   Where we learn His holy word, And receive His Spirit's peace, We are sealed by His blood, Where fear and worry

Marcia's Poem of the Week 8.13.2021

  Marcia's Poem of the Week Reflecting on Genesis 45:4, 5, & 9-11 “GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU” Forgiveness is really difficult. But holding an unforgiving spirit can make one sick. This story was one of the best stories for me to understand that God shows us how forgiveness works. Joseph could have been angry with his brothers and with God. And who could blame him. How many times have you been angry with God or someone else? Joseph was able to see that God's work took time. You can be sure that when you are hurting God is working to make things right. Talk to God, be patient, wait and watch Him work. God will take care of you.  In Genesis 45 we can read how God took care of Joseph and his family. Genesis 45: 4 “Please, come closer,” he said to them. So they came closer.
