Marcia's Poem of the week 9/30/2022 Amos 6: 1-7 BECOMING COMPLACENT

1 What sorrow awaits you who lounge in luxury in Jerusalem, and you who feel secure in Samaria! You are famous and popular in Israel, and people go to you for help. 2 But go over to Calneh and see what happened there. Then go to the great city of Hamath and down to the Philistine city of Gath. You are no better than they were, and look at how they were destroyed. 3 You push away every thought of a coming disaster, but your actions only bring the day of judgment closer. 4 How terrible for you who sprawl on ivory beds and lounge on your couches, eating the meat of tender lambs from the flock and of choice calves fattened in the stall. 5 You sing trivial songs to the sound of the harp and fancy yourselves to be great musicians like David. 6 You drink wine by the bowlful and perfume yourselves with fragrant lotions. You care nothing about the ruin of your nation. 7 Therefore, you will be the first to be led away as captives. Suddenly, all your parties will end. Amos 6:1-7

BECOMING COMPLACENT* Amos 6:1-7

Do we boast of our tomorrow,
Where we'll go and who we'll be,
Do we wonder if it's worth it,
What we'll do and who we'll see.

Do we store up many riches,
Do we know our wealth will rot,
Do we know our clothes will ruin,
God knows, and wants us to stop.

Stop boasting of our future,
Stop hoarding of much stuff,
When we stop withholding wealth,
We will always have enough.

God doesn't just imply it,
He makes His promise true,
With Him you'll want for nothing,
And there will be nothing you can't do.

Poem of the week for my great grandsons, Jeremiah, Tobiah and Elijah.

BECOMING COMPLACENT Amos 16: 1-7

How dire it'll be for anyone,
To choose a life of only ease,
All the while basking in the Sun,
And doing what they please.

The ones that eat choice meat,
And sing a meaningless song,
And think only how great they feel,
And that they can do no wrong.

Or one that drinks sweet fruits,
And bathes in luxury,
Or ones who have little care,
For those who live in poverty.

Our Lord does love you so,
And wants you to share,
And take His love where you go,
To show that He does care.
