 "OVERCOMING TRAPS” Matthew 16:21-26 21

"From then on Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem, and that he would suffer many terrible things at the hands of the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but on the third day he would be raised from the dead. 22 But Peter took him aside and began to reprimand him for saying such things. “Heaven forbid, Lord,” he said. “This will never happen to you!” 23 Jesus turned to Peter and said, “Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.” 24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. 25 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. 26  And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?"

“OVERCOMING TRAPS”

The world has traps to overcome,
But God's presence is without limit,
For He can bring peace to anyone,
Through the power of His Holy Spirit.

He can quiet your heart to a whisper,
And remove worldly clamor and noise,
He can make your ear a better listener,
And your footing readied and poised.

So, anchor your thoughts in His Word,
And hold on to His love and truth,
His Words are the sweetest ever heard,
And offers forgiveness and proof.

God's spirit gifts you with salvation,
And shows you how to better live,
And floods you with joy and revelation,
That guides you and helps you forgive.

A spiritual awakening is in God's plan,
And shields your heart from the impure,
Thus, to remain in His own gentle hand,
Rest in His promises forevermore.

“A TRUTH TO TELL”

It takes a devout one like you,
To follow God's lead,
And to share the good news,
So others will believe.

For you are made brave,
And gifted with holiness,
That shows you the way,
To God's divine fullness.

Let your heart be quickened,
And your mind be clear,
To free the imprisoned,
And to calm every fear.

So set high your sight,
On His amazing grace,
And fight for right,
And take your place.

For there's a truth to tell,
And a battle to defend,
And wounds to heal,
And hearts to mend.
