Marcia's Poem of the Week Reflecting on Genesis 45:4, 5, & 9-11

“GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU”

Forgiveness is really difficult. But holding an unforgiving spirit can make one sick. This story was one of the best stories for me to understand that God shows us how forgiveness works. Joseph could have been angry with his brothers and with God. And who could blame him. How many times have you been angry with God or someone else? Joseph was able to see that God's work took time. You can be sure that when you are hurting God is working to make things right. Talk to God, be patient, wait and watch Him work. God will take care of you.

In Genesis 45 we can read how God took care of Joseph and his family. Genesis 45: 4 “Please, come closer,” he said to them. So they came closer. And he said again, “I am Joseph, your brother, whom you sold into slavery in Egypt. 5. But don’t be upset, and don’t be angry with yourselves for selling me to this place. It was God who sent me here ahead of you to preserve your lives. 9. “Now hurry back to my father and tell him, ‘This is what your son Joseph says: God has made me master over all the land of Egypt. So come down to me immediately! 10. You can live in the region of Goshen, where you can be near me with all your children and grandchildren, your flocks and herds, and everything you own. 11. I will take care of you there, for there are still five years of famine ahead of us. Otherwise you, your household, and all your animals will starve.”

GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU”

Joseph's brothers came a long way,

For a famine had devastated the land,

And Joseph knew God planned that day,

Because his family needed a helping hand.

Joseph had spent a long time waiting,

To learn that his family was alive,

And he knew it was in God's making,

To forgive and help them survive.

Vengeance is the Lord's, they say,

And you're to trust that God knows right,

Look to His words and way,

For earthly battles are His to fight.

He'll pull you from the hand of evil.

And raise you to wholeness and strength.

And His blessing and power are unbeatable.

As His arm of protection has great length.

Undergoing difficulty may be your lot,

But seek not after an earthly cure,

For you'll scheme, ponder and plot,

And have much ruin to endure.

Know the battle belongs to the Lord,

You need only to reach for Him,

He will bring His avenging sword,

To rescue you once again.

For God's love knows no boundary,

There is nothing He cannot do,

He took care of Joseph and his family,

And God will take care of you.
